Classic superregerative and regenerative "Portable Radio"
with CW and Class B modulation for AM
This radio is marked "Field Day 1934". It is signed "James Millen",
"T.O.M. (The Old Man?), "1AW" (No, not W1AW), "R.H." (Ross Hull?), "S.R. Beardslee",
"W8CWN" (W8CWN is not shown in the list for 1934 FD participants--W8CWH apparently is)
"Camp Vail" (No, not Fort Monmouth), "AARS" and "MAJ T.C. Rives".
Currently under total restoration by WA6PRL--has been for three and a half years!
This station is very unique in that it is complete and runs CW and Class B modulated
AM phone. Of particular
interest to me is the way it can be set up as a Dallin-Halco receiver with hetrodyne injected
super-regeneration for CW work. See the January 1927 QST for an explaination of this
concept.
The RF power output is about two watts using a 19 final driven by a 33 with a 19 class "B"
modulator driven by two 30"s in series. The receiver is a 1A4P RF amplifer, 1B4 detector,
30 Quench oscillator, 32 hetrodyne oscillator, 30 first audio and 33 audio output. There is an
antenna tuner included. All coils are plug in. The original "drift-a-matic, chirp-a-matic and
FM-a-matic split coil Colpitts has been replaced with a modifed Pierce with crystal control.
The station covers from about 500 Kc to 14.5 Mc. with plug in coils.
