In 2008 there will/have been/be three premier signal events:
Signal Camp of Instruction at Fort McAllister, Georgia, March 8th and
9th 2008 at the Fort McAllister State Park. THIS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS
WITH WONDERFUL SUPPORT FROM THE PARK STAFF. Groups wishing to participate in a possible 2009 Camp of Instruction should contact
Danny at the park. While we were there Danny found a Union breastplate and a 32 pound cannon ball.
This site is truly of the great ones to work on and with. IT IS VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The bombproof quarters must be seen. Amazing.
Signal Camp of Instruction at Stones River Battlefield May 3rd and 4th, 2008. This was
in conjunction with the staff and volunteers of:
Stones River National Battlefield, and the
35th Indiana.

All of the Camps of Instruction are open to the public for viewing and will also include the Infantry, both volunteer and Regular, the
Sharpshooters, Artillery, medical and Ladies of the Civil War presentations and living history.
We have just added a Camp of Instruction at the General Lew Wallace study and museum in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
This was July 12th and 13th and was well received by the students and the public.

The Beardslee sets, Morse telegraph stations, flags and turpentine torches were a great success on the Ohio River at the
Tall Stacks five day
Signal Corps demonstration as part of the OVCWA living history participation in this grand and special gathering of the
Ohio River Tall Stacks in October.

The Beardslee Dial Telegraph has returned from it's very successful display at the
Manassas Museum System. Our thanks to
Roxanna for her kind help and assistance. The OVCWA donated a Signal Corps canteen and Marine Glasses to the museum to add to the
George Round artifact and telescope exhibit. The OVCWA has also donated signal items to include additional Signal Corps canteens to the
Stones River and Kennesaw Mountain museums. Donations of Signal Corps artifacts and documents and a Signal Canteen continue to be made to
the Signal Corps Museum located at Fort Gordon, Georgia. These donations are a grateful thank-you to those institutions for their support
of the OVCWA Signal Corps and their most generous access to their extensive collections and documents.
The Ohio Valley Civil War Association had the honor last October of being filmed for the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum's
new interactive exhibit. Members of Battery C 1st Ohio Light Artillery, the 35th Ohio VI, the 19th Us Infantry, and Birge's Western Sharpshooters
detailed to the
Signal Corps to provide signaling footage from Little Round Top. Our thanks to the Gettysburg staff for selecting the OVCWA to
represent the Signal Corps in their exhibit. It has truly been a great year.

The Civil War Signal Corps is a subject of which little has been known by the public. This is even more the case with
the "Flying Telegraph", "Signal Telegraph", "Field Telegraph", "Beardslee telegraph","Coffee Grinder Telegraph",
or the civilian controlled and operated United States Military Telegraph. Taken together,
these represent much of what was the communication technology of the American Civil War.
The Ohio Valley Civil War Association (Civil War Signal Corps Detachment) continues to develop this suite of sites
on these aspects of the technology of the Civil War to provide the necessary knowledge and
training for it's members who portray, often in addition to the Civil War Signal Corps and military telegraph functions,
regular infantry, volunteer infantry, artillery, calvary,
sanitary commission, medical
U.S. Army signal officers, flag operators, torch operators, Beardslee telegraph operators, Morse male and female telegraphers,
linemen, mess sergeants,
and sharpshooters. Anyone interested in any of these Civil War
activities are invited to contact on the OVCWA links or to the OVCWA.
